Leh Ladakh

Leh Ladakh is situated at an altitude ranging from 2300m to 5000m above sea level. Leh Ladakh is home to not only a few but 20 passes that make it the Land of High Passes. “La” means Passes and “Dhak” means numerous, and thus Ladakh is known as the “Land of High Passes. Leh is one of the largest Districts in the country. Leh is bounded by Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the west and China in the North and eastern part and Lahul Spiti of Himachal Pradesh in the southeast. Topographically, the whole of the district is mountainous with three parallel ranges of the Himalayas, the Zanskar, the Ladakh, and the Karakoram. Between these ranges, the Shayok, Indus, and Zanskar rivers flow, and most of the population lives in the valleys of these rivers.
